John Mobley Obituary

John Arnold Mobley, (November 29, 1948 - February 14, 2021) was born in Youngstown, Ohio
to John Amzi and H. Ruth (Donnelly) Mobley. He graduated from South High School in 1967 in
Youngstown, Ohio. John immediately joined the United States Air Force and retired after 20
years of military service. From 1988-1991, John worked for Unison Transformer Services. In
1991 he joined Cobb EMC where he remained until his second retirement in 2013. John
received his Associate degree in Applied Science from Southern Polytechnic Institute and a
Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Education with a specialization in Electrical
Systems from Wayland Baptist University. In 1970, John married Cheryl Aline Mobley (Wagner)
and they had two children. In 1984, John married Mary Ruth (Gould) and they remained married
for 36 years. John loved to travel, enjoyed scuba diving, playing pinochle, dominos and texas
hold‘em, and his favorite pastime of riding his motorcycle. John was also a die-hard Pittsburgh
Steelers fan. John was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Alpharetta, Georgia.
John was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in Unity Lodge #115, Prince Hall
Affiliated (Dayton, Ohio) and held various memberships in other masonic related organizations.
Preceded in death by his parents, John Amzi and H. Ruth (Donnelly) Mobley, brothers, Fred
“Skip” Bennett and Keith Turner, sister, Dianne Mobley, and sons, Stanley Gould, Steven
Gould, and Llewellyn Gould. John is survived by his beloved wife, Mary, daughters, Ebony
Annette Mobley and Gigi Winston (Stacey), sons, John Abdul Muhammad (Christina Joseph)
and Christopher Gould, two grandsons, John Amir Muhammad and Emmanuel Kadir
Muhammad plus 16 additional grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of in-laws
and extended family including Charles and Darcell Wilson, Sr. (Bowie, Maryland), Donna and
Julian Schmoke (Sandy Springs, Georgia), Don and Elvia Turnbow (Warner Robins, Georgia),
and friends at Paradise Grill.Friends and family may attend a viewing on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 3:00pm until 8:30pm,
at Hanley-Shelton Funeral Home in Marietta, Georgia. A private service will be held on
Saturday, February 27, 2021, and a private military burial service will be held at the National
Cemetery in Canton, Georgia on Monday, March 1, 2021.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chestene Carter Memorial
Scholarship at Donate | St. James United Methodist Church | St James UMC.
