Mr. Joseph Reed

it is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Joseph Arthur Reed, age 74, of Kennesaw, Georgia, who entered into his eternal rest on May 24, 2023. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 12:00 Noon in The Evelyn Samples Shelton Memorial Chapel of Hanley Shelton Funeral Home.

Joseph A. Reed Sr. quietly passed away in his home on May 24, 2023 at the age of 74.

Joe's tenacious presence entered the world when he was born to the late Arthur Reed and Enola Anthony Thomas on November 28, 1948 in New Orleans, LA.

After graduating from St. Augustine High School, Joe joined the US Air Force where he honorably served as an air traffic controller for nearly a decade. It was during the inception of his military journey that he married, Linda, his neighborhood sweetheart. He then went on to earn an Associate Degree in business from Delgado Community College in New Orleans, LA.

Joe's civil contribution spans multiple decades. He began by working as a clerk at US Customs. From there, he transitioned to the US Postal Service. This is where he would go on to solidify his longest tenure.

From starting out as a mail carrier to being promoted to mail clerk, he gave the USPS his blood, sweat, tears, and 3a.m. morning-rise.

In 2005, Joe was forced to face the ultimate transition when he and his family loss their home to Hurricane Katrina. As a result, the family relocated to Atlanta, GA where Joe transferred to a local Postal branch and resumed his work duties. His new postal family embraced him and provided a comfortable work environment where he established good relationships. After thirty-nine years of sorting through mail, Joe signed off to enjoy retirement.

Joe was an active member of American Legion Post 160. His spirit of servitude overflowed as he worked shoulder-to-shoulder with vets to help the less fortunate. Joe's hobbies included feeding birds at parks, conversing with new and familiar friends, taste-testing diverse cuisines, shooting pool, and jamming to James Brown.

Joseph was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Reed and mother, Enola Anthony Thomas.

He is survived by his wife, Linda White Reed, children: Joseph A. Reed Jr. (Marlo Reed), Eurick Reed (Jamie Stone), Desiree Reed, grandchildren: Jamar Reed, Jaydon Reed, Kendrick Reed, Kayden Reed, Cassidy Reed and a host of other relatives and friends.
