Khairi Jamal Shakkas, known to most as “Khai” was born on December 14, 2005, with his twin brother, Khiari. Khai, the oldest twin, was fun-loving, happy, and a jokester from the start. Being one to love cracking jokes, he was always making people laugh. Early on it was clear that Khai’s interests were in entrepreneurship, and he would spend time with his brother, mom, and dad, learning about the world of business, so he could start his own clothing line. Khai was always determined to stand up for what he believed. As a young man, he was an utter gentleman, polite, supportive, and caring, and he made sure to always look out for his mother. At an early age, he professed his faith in Jesus Christ, he was a growing believer, and as a beloved member of World Harvest he was always ready to go to church.
Khai began taking a big interest in school when he started attending Amana Academy, he was a good student and was loved by many. He was serious about his life and wanted the best. He started working at the age of 15 at Sky Zone and could not wait to get his driver’s permit when he turned 16. Khai was a Junior at Centennial High School and he loved to stop and chat with both students and staff.  He was a mogul in the making, investing his time and money in his clothing brand, Royal Essence. Khai found a friend in everyone he met and in his short life knew a lot about the importance of love, kindness, and leadership. Khai was keenly interested in the world around him and had no shortage of questions regarding the things he was curious about. His dream was to be an entrepreneur and find success based on his merit & quick wit.
Khai was diagnosed with a rare condition, that he endured his entire life with a quiet strength. He loved being around family and friends; Khai was a natural comedian and loved to dance and have a good time. All who knew him well, knew his love for oxtails, and Popeye’s Cajun rice. He loved listening to music, playing video games, and watching Marvel movies, in his free time, although his favorite “superhero” was Batman.
Even though Khairi was taken from us much too soon, he was able to teach us so much in such a short amount of time, namely “to have fun, and look good while doing it.” Khai will forever be cherished by a loving group of friends, family, teachers, and classmates. His beautiful life will forever be in the hearts of his loved ones: mother, Terrilyn Henry-Shakkas; father, Shabba S.Shakkas; twin brother, Khiari Te’rhen Shakkas; sister Na’Shabba Z. Shakkas; brother, Tyme S. Reign-Shakkas; grandmother, Linda S. Anderson-Smith; Aunt, Toni L. Brown-Miller; Uncle, Brad D. (Veronika) Henry; beloved cousin, Koryn B. Walker and Nasir A. Henry, and a host of devoted great-aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his Grandmother Gloria L. Jenkins.
