It is with deepest sympathy that we announce the passing of Mrs. Virginia Patterson, age 76, of Roswell, Georgia, who entered into her eternal rest on January 13, 2024. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 12:00 Noon at Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Roswell. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service.

On June 14, 1947 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, God presented the late Hugh Dorris and Minnie Mozell Cook Manning with their first born daughter, Virginia Louise Manning. Virginia was preceded to eternal life by her loving husband, Charles Patterson, her only sibling, Doris Nadine Manning-Byrd Holmes, her paternal grandparents, Guy and Corrie Grogan-Manning, and her maternal grandparents, Willie Lewis & Barron Bailey Cook.
At the age of nine during Summer Revival, she accepted God as her Lord and Savior at Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a faithful dedicated member. She was active in many church ministries: Sunday School, BTU, Children, Youth, Senior, Gospel Chorus, Assistant Church Clerk, Women's Ministry Chair, Deaconess Ministry Chair, Long Range Planning, Welcome Delegate to Sunday School and BTU Convention, Original 12 – Key Ministry and CCG.
Virginia was educated in Fulton County Public School for Blacks in Alpharetta named Bailey Johnson Elementary and High School which was located directly across the street from the house she grew up in. She was very active in school organization and was Miss Bailey-Johnson in 1962 and graduated Valedictorian of the Class of 1965. In 1969, she graduated from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC with a Bachelors degree in Economics.
Virginia was united in holy matrimony to Charles Patterson on January 23, 1971 at Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Roswell, Georgia by the late Reverend J.J. Grogan. One son was born to this union Charles “Charley” Manning Patterson.
After graduating, her work experience included administrative assistant for Fulton County Health Department in Family Planning including Center Hill, Roy McGee and Adamsville Health Centers and later administrator to the Fulton County Superior Court which is where she retired after more than 30 years of service.
Virginia was a people person who had a kind, warm, generous, and loving spirt, who loved helping others and mentoring young people. She also enjoyed participating in church activities, gardening, garage sales, and watching the “View.
Virginia's life and memory will be cherished by her loving son Charles “Charley” Patterson, nephew Reginald Duane Byrd (Marlys), grand niece Jasmine Byrd, great grand niece Kennedi Rider; God daughters: Catina Stewart, Sharita Stewart Tanner, Monique Medina Bandy, Kelli Richardson; God grandson: Elijah Bandy; and a host of other relatives and friends.
